BOGOTA, Colombia ? The International Committee of the Red Cross says Colombia's main rebel movement has sent word that it intends to release a French journalist who went missing during a firefight two weeks ago.
Red Cross spokeswoman Maria Cristina Rivera says the humanitarian organization has been informed by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia that the group is "working to finalize the place, day and time" that it will free journalist Romeo Langlois.
In reporting the development Sunday, Rivera declined to specify how the Red Cross was contacted by the FARC.
The FARC leadership confirmed a week ago that the rebels are holding Langlois. The French journalist disappeared April 28 when FARC fighters attacked security forces who Langlois was accompanying during an operation to destroy a cocaine lab.
