(CBS) - "Extreme" is a word that has lost meaning in recent years. If something like skateboarding is an "extreme sport," then we may have to invent a whole new vocabulary for the ridiculous feat in this video. Professional surfer Garrett McNamara (that tiny dot on a surf board in a literal sea of blue) has surfed the largest wave ever. Watch as McNamara rides a 90-foot wall of water - and then realize that "extreme" doesn't even come close.
The Hawaiian surfer was in Praia do Norte, Nazare, Portugal along with fellow wave riders Andrew Cotton and Al Mennie.
"Everything was perfect - the weather, the waves." Mennie told Surfer Today. "Cotty and I surfed two big waves of about 60 feet and then, when Garrett was ready came a canyon of wave of over 90 feet."
"It was amazing. Most people would be scared, but Garrett was controlling everything in the critical part of the wave. It was an inspiring ride by an inspiring surfer," Mennie said.
