Bo Xilai scandal: Gu Kailai charged with Heywood murder
The wife of disgraced Chinese political leader Bo Xilai has been charged with the murder of UK businessman Neil Heywood, state news agency Xinhua says. Gu Kailai and Zhang Xiaojun, employed at Mr Bo's home, were "recently" prosecuted by a Chinese court, Xinhua said, without giving further details. Mr Heywood was found dead in a hotel in Chongqing on 15 November 2011. The apparent murder of Mr Heywood triggered Mr Bo's downfall in a scandal that has rocked Chinese politics. Local officials initially said Mr Heywood died of excessive drinking, but the government announced in April it was investigating Mr Bo's wife in connection with the case. The two accused have been charged with intentional homicide by the Hefei Municipal Procuratorate (state prosecutor's office) in the eastern province of Anhui. Britain welcomed the news, saying it was "glad to see" China is continuing the investigation into Mr Heywood's death. The timing of the announcement is significant, as is the fact that Ms Gu is being prosecuted in Anhui, some distance from Chongqing, where the crime allegedly took place, says BBC Chinese.com editor Yuwen Wu. Legal experts told BBC Chinese that authorities would have had concerns about the political influence Bo Xilai and his family may still exert in Chongqing and whether that would affect a fair trial. Analysts also say the authorities are keen to resolve the case quickly before China undergoes its politically sensitive once-in-a-decade party leadership change ...

Gu Kaili the wife of the disgraced Chinese political leader Bo Xilai , has been charged with the murder of British businessman Neil Heywood. Who was found dead in a hotel in Chongqing on 15 November 2011. Local officials initially said Mr Heywood died of excessive drinking, but the government announced in April it was investigating Mr Bo's wife in connection with the case. It was understood Ms Gu and her son had conflicts with Mr Heywood over economic interests. Although, the exact nature of Mr Heywood's role, and his relationship with the Bo family is unclear. Bo Xilai's Wife, Bogu Kailai, Stands Trial for Neil Heywood's death
HEFEI, China (Reuters) - The woman at the centre of China's most politically explosive trial in three decades did not contest charges of murder on Thursday in a hearing that lasted just seven hours and could determine the fate of former Politburo member Bo Xilai. A formal verdict will be delivered at a later date, a court official said, recounting details of the closed-door hearing. Bo's wife, Gu Kailai, chose not to contest the charge of murdering British businessman Neil Heywood whose alleged secretive dealings with the couple fuelled a scandal exposing the intimate nexus between money and power in China's elite. The dramatic account of Heywood's death by poisoning is also likely to sound the final death knell to Bo's political career, even as sympathizers cast him as the victim of a push to oust him and discredit his left-leaning agenda. "The accused Bogu (Gu) Kailai and Zhang Xiaojun did not raise objections to the accusations of intentional homicide," the official, Tang Yigan, said after the hearing, referring also to Gu's co-accused, an aide to the family.

Bo Xilai May Face Family Extermination
Follow us on TWITTER: twitter.com Like us on FACEBOOK: www.facebook.com According to a Xinhua News Agency news report on April 10, Bo Xilai was put under investigation (shuanggui) by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection. The news said that Bo was suspended from his posts as the Politburo member and as a Central Committee member. Bo's wife, Gu Kailai and his home-service secretary, Zhang Xiaojun, have both been arrested. This is because Gu and Zhang are suspected of murdering British citizen Neil Heywood, according to the official announcement. Critic Zhang Tianliang says that the pre-arranged news reports issued by Xinhua News Agency still leave a cloud of suspicion hanging over the Bo Xilai case. Zhang points out that it was an anomaly that Wang Lijun had bypassed Zhou Yongkang to tell the US consulate about Bo's family being under suspicion of murder. This shows that Zhou Yongkang is a "political interest related party" on this issue. Zhang deduced that Bo and Zhou had plotted rebellion, they both therefore needed large sums of money. Heywood was one of middlemen who helped Bo's family to accumulate wealth. However Heywood might have been unclear about how the money was to be used. Later he might have unintentionally learned something of Bo's plotting treason, so he may have become very afraid. Gu doubted Heywood's loyalty so she poisoned him to death, Zhang figures. Xinhua News Agency said that over several years, Gu Kailai and her son had kept up a good ...

Bo Xilai scandal: Gu Kailai Charged with Heywood Murder
Gu Kailai, the wife of a Bo Xilai, a high-level Party official that was deposed in a spectacular power struggle earlier this year, has been formally indicted for homicide. The news was announced in a short notice by Xinhua, the Communist Party mouthpiece. Citing authorities, the state run media outlet said that Gu and family employee Zhang Xiaojun will be prosecuted for allegedly poisoning British businessman Neil Heywood over "conflict of economic interests" between Heywood and Gu. the notice says that the "facts of the crime are clear," and that the evidence against the two is "reliable and abundant." The short announcement contained a number of linguistic idiosyncrasies specific to Chinese communist political notices: Gu Kailai was identified as "Bogu Kailai," a way of linking her with her disgraced husband, although no one but Xinhua uses that form of identification. No date for the trial was specified, but the Bo family lawyer says it will likely take place on Aug. 7-8. Bo Xilai is currently still being held by Party investigators, and being taken through the secretive communist process called "shuanggui," which is reported to often involve interrogation and torture. Neil Heywood was a low-level accomplice in Bo Xilai's network, helping to facilitate his son's Bo Guagua's education at prestigious schools in England. Bo owed his swift rise in the Party due to his patron Jiang Zemin, the former Party leader. By installing Bo in a central leadership position--the plan ...

Wife of Bo Xilai on trial for murder of Brit Neil Heywood
It has been billed as the Chinese trial of the century, as Gu Kailai, the wife of deposed leader Bo Xilai, is due to stand trial in the dock for the murder of British businessman Neil Heywood last November. Both Bo, who was party chief in the city of Chongqing, and his wife have been in detention since Beijing first announced the murder allegation against them in April. This government worker Mr lei speaking outside the court in Mandarin said he was confident the facts surrounding the case will come to light "I don't actually have a very clear understanding (of this case), but if it's going through the court system, which has its own set procedures, I think that it should be in line with the truth. Whatever the verdict is, I think that the court should have its own way to judge." Kailai faces the death penalty if she is found guilty of murdering Neil Heywood last November. This Politics Professor Joseph Cheng believes she may be let off with a stiff jail sentence. Written and Presented by Ann Salter

Bo Xilai's Wife Admits to Murder
Follow us on TWITTER: twitter.com Like us on FACEBOOK: www.facebook.com On June 22, Japan's Asahi Shimbun reported that Gu Kailai, the wife of Bo Xilai, the former Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Secretary, has admitted to the murder British businessman Neil Heywood. It is reported that the Chinese Communist authorities have decided to sue Gu Kailai, and have begun to investigate whether Bo Xilai was aware of this series of behavior by his wife. The reports quoted a well-informed person who revealed that Gu Kailai admitted that from the early 1990s up until her arrest, she had taken cash from businesses that were taking advantage of Bo Xilai's position. To hide the illegal income, she opened bank accounts in the US and UK on behalf of her relatives and friends. This way, she transferred 6 billion US dollars. Heywood assisted her to open accounts and exchange currency. The report quoted CCP internal news which said that Gu Kailai admitted she killed Heywood in order to prevent him from disclosing the crime of illegal overseas remittance, and confessed to the murder. The Chinese authorities have arrested dozens of municipal officials, secretaries, drivers and janissary of Bo Xilai when he served as mayor of Dalian. These people were gathered for investigation. They also investigated and searched hundreds of corporate executives and artists related to Bo Xilai. Follow us on TWITTER: twitter.com Like us on FACEBOOK: www.facebook.com The truth of the Wang Lijun and Bo Xilai incident remains murky to the public so far. Related scandals are being exposed continually. Recent reports accuse Bo Xilai and his wife of being part of several murder cases?one being the mysterious death of Bo Xilai's son, Bo Guagua's personal British nanny, which aroused official attention in the UK The UK has formally requested the Chinese Communist Party(CCP) for an investigation into the case. On March 24, Chinese internet posts reported the death of Bo Guagua's British Nanny, Nick Heywood. Yang Haipeng, former journalist of Today's Finance, revealed the news about Haywood's death in Chongqing. Local authorities did not conduct further investigations and quickly cremated the body. Wang Lijun, former police chief of Chongqing, was reportedly handling the case. Later on, Southern Weekend reporter Chu Zhaoxin posted in his Weibo that Nick Heywood was murdered. Haywood's death was related to Gu Kailai, wife of former CCP Secretary of Chongqing Bo Xilai, according to Chu. Nick Heywood's case sparked international media attention. Mr. Haywood was found dead in his Chongqing hotel room in last October, the Wall Street Journal reported. Alleged Poisoning Details in Bo Xilai-Linked Murder Case
For more news and videos visit ? english.ntdtv.com Follow us on Twitter ? http Add us on Facebook ? on.fb.me The continuing scandal of disgraced Chinese politican Bo Xilai took an unexpected turn last week with the arrest of his wife, Gu Kailai, for the murder of UK citizen Neil Heywood. Now new allegations have appeared on Chinese-language websites, claiming to divulge additional details of this case at the center of China's Communist Party political struggle. When UK-businessman Neil Heywood turned up dead in the city of Chongqing, his body was swiftly cremated. Local government sources then claimed that his cause of death had been "excessive alcohol consumption". Close friends, however, found this explanation deeply unlikely given that Heywood seldom drank. Now, new accounts relayed by Chinese-language websites Boxun and Baidu claim that the cause of Heywood's death was poisoning by cyanide. The alleged source of this information is one of the Chongqing officials who ordered the act, at the orders of now disgraced Communist Party leader Bo Xilai and his wife, Gu Kailai. Heywood had been a close associate of the power couple, and is widely reported to have both mentored their UK-educated son and to have assisted them with various murky financial dealings...including allegedly moving 800-million pounds overseas. The case was dramatically reopened this past week, when Gu Kailai was arrested and held on charges of planning the murder. Bo Xilai, meanwhile, was stripped ...

"Bo-"Gu Kailai Charged in Heywood Murder
Gu Kailai, the wife of former Communist Party politician Bo Xilai, has been charged with intentional homicide. Gu and an employee of the family, Zhang Xiaojun, will be prosecuted for the alleged poisoning of British businessman, Neil Heywood. Heywood is believed to have been poisoned after he threatened to expose Gu's plan to move money abroad. Heywood was a friend of the Bo family. State-run Xinhua news agency says the motive was a (quote) "conflict of economic interests" between Heywood and Gu. State-run media did not give a trial date, but it is likely to be in early August. Gu has been in police custody for months on suspicion of committing or arranging Heywood's murder. No details of the crime were publicly released, other than a general comment from Chinese state media that he was killed after a financial dispute. The accusations leveled against Gu are the latest development in a wider political scandal surrounding her husband, Bo Xilai. Bo was formerly a member of the Politburo, although he lost all of his central Communist Party positions at the same time Gu was arrested in April. Bo is under investigation within the Party that could escalate to a criminal investigation. The political scandal surrounding Bo has revealed factional fighting within the usually unified front of the Communist Party, disrupting a normally choreographed leadership transition scheduled for later this year.

Heywood murder: China sets Bo Xilai wife(????) trial date
Gu Kailai, wife of Chinese politician Bo Xilai, will go on trial for the murder of British businessman Neil Heywood next Thursday, lawyers say. Prosecutors announced last week that Ms Gu and Zhang Xiaojun, employed at Mr Bo's home, had been charged with intentional homicide. Mr Heywood was found dead in a hotel in Chongqing on 15 November 2011. The alleged murder of Mr Heywood triggered Mr Bo's downfall in a scandal that has rocked Chinese politics. The trial is expected to take place in the eastern city of Hefei, even though the crime allegedly took place hundreds of miles to the west in the city of Chongqing. Legal experts have previously told BBC Chinese that authorities would have had concerns about the political influence Mr Bo and his family may still exert in Chongqing and whether that would affect a fair trial. Local officials initially said Mr Heywood died of excessive drinking, but the government announced in April it was investigating Mr Bo's wife in connection with the case. The exact nature of Mr Heywood's role and his relations with the Bo family have been the subject of much speculation inside and outside China. At the very least, there were close business contacts between the Bo family and Mr Heywood. Mr Bo, the former high-flying leader of the south-western Chinese megacity of Chongqing, was sacked in March and is under investigation for allegedly flouting Communist Party rules. He made his name tackling corruption in Chongqing and had been expected to be ...

Bo Xilai: The downfall of a 'princeling'
Former Chongqing Mayor Bo Xilai seemed destined for the top echelon of Chinese politics until his spectacular fall from grace last month. Bo, the son of famed Communist Party figure Bo Yibo, made his name as leader of the port city of Dalian before taking over the western metropolis of Chongqing. Ably abetted by his lawyer wife Gu Kailai, Bo's four-year spell in charge of Chongqing was marked by his populist policies, a war on organized crime, welfare largesse for the poor and a return to veneration of Mao Zedong and China's revolutionary era. But the Bo fairytale started to unravel a few weeks ago when his crime-fighting police chief Wang Lijun attempted to defect at the US embassy in Chengdu. Wang reportedly decided enough was enough when he discovered Bo's wife was involved in the death of Neil Heywood, a UK business consultant and long term friend of the Bo's, who was found dead in a Chongqing hotel room last year after allegedly falling out with them 'over economic interests.' Bo was suddenly deposed as party leader for Chongqing in March while Gu was arrested last week in connection with Heywood's death. The 'Chongqing model' as Bo once proudly promoted would now appear to be defunct while a propaganda campaign is educating the public of the Bo's various alleged abuses of power. Did Bo get what he deserved?

www.youtube.com 06/11/2012 Follow us on TWITTER: twitter.com Like us on FACEBOOK: www.facebook.com Gu Kailai, wife of former Chongqing Party Secretary Bo Xilai, was suspect murderer of British businessmen Neil Heywood. Recent news said that Gu's family have hired senior lawyer Shen Zhigeng, who is famous for handling corruption cases. Experts said Gu will probably not be sentenced to death, but neither is she the main protagonist of the case. June 10, Reuters quoted from two anonymous informants that Gu Kailai has hired Shen Zhigeng to be her defense lawyer. Shen, partner at Beijing Zong Heng Law Firm, once represented Li Jizhou, former Vice Minister of National Public Security, in his case of bribery. Sunday, Reuters approached Shen Zhigeng by phone, but Shen refused to make any comment. He said it was still unconfirmed and he hadn't met Gu Kailai. Upon further inquiry about his potential role in the case, Shen answered that judiciary departments forbade him to comment or talk with media. Wang Youjin, guest professor at China University of Political Science and Law, said to Hong Kong newspaper Ming Pao, that Shen Zhigeng must have been assigned to Gu by the judiciary. However, he said, it would be hard for Gu to be acquitted since the authorities must have sufficient evidence against her. The siblings of Bo Xilai?the sacked Chongqing party chief now under investigation for "disciplinary violations"?and his wife Gu Kailai?who faces a murder charge of a British businessman?are reported to be linked to several businesses in China and overseas worth millions of dollars. The family wealth of ousted communist official Bo Xilai has come under media scrutiny, as an official murder investigation continues into the death of British citizen Neil Heywood. Bo's wife is the primary suspect. Reuters has reported that though Heywood was a close friend of the Bo family, they had a falling out. Bo's wife, Gu Kailai, asked Heywood for help with transferring a large sum of money overseas. He reportedly asked her for a larger cut of money. Gu refused, and Heywood threatened to expose her financial dealings. Before Bo Xilai was ousted as Chongqing's Communist Party Chief, he had defended his wife. He called Gu, who was a successful lawyer, nothing more than a housewife. Media reports later revealed she has links to several businesses in China, the UK, and the United States.
