Man Dies After Falling With Police Officer Into Niagara Gorge

A police chase in Niagara Falls, Ontario ended with a harrowing rescue from the deadly currents of the Niagara gorge.

CP24 is reporting that two men, including a police officer, tumbled into the powerful waters at River Road near Eastwood Avenue.

Firefighters quickly converged on the scene with rapelling equipment, according to Bullet News Niagara, using a bucket to pluck the officer from the gorge.

Const. Derek Watson of Niagara Regional Police told reporters the officer has been sent to hospital; the suspect remains at large.

Ontario's Special Investigations Unit is now on the scene, where rescue crews are reportedly trying to recover the second individual.
