ISLAMABAD, Pakistan -�A Pakistani passenger jet carrying more than 120 people crashed in a residential neighborhood on Friday as it was trying to land at an airport near the capital, Islamabad, during a rainstorm, officials said. ��
Police said there was no chance that anybody survived the crash, Al Jazeera English reported.�
NBC News' Fakhur Rehman�at��the scene of the crash said he saw the aircraft's charred wreckage and "many bodies" scattered on the ground.�
Defense Minister Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhar told The Associated Press that rescue teams were at the scene.
State television reported that all hospitals in Islamabad and the nearby city of Rawalpindi were on high alert after the crash.

Sources told Geo TV that �the aircraft was a Boeing 737 that took off from the country's biggest city, Karachi, and was scheduled to land at�Benazir Bhutto International Airport�at 6:40 p.m. (9:40 a.m. ET) but crashed just before touchdown. �
Bhoja Airlines flight number B4-213 reportedly went down near an airbase, according to Geo.
The airline's spokesman, Jaser Abro, said 116 passengers were on board and up to six crew. A civil aviation official, meanwhile, told Reuters that 131 people were on board. �Earlier, news service and local reports put the number at 127.

There was no explanation for the different numbers but such discrepancies are common in the immediate aftermath of such events.

The last major aviation accident in Pakistan occurred in July 2010, when a commercial airliner operated by AirBlue with 152 people on board crashed into the hills overlooking Islamabad.
In 2006, a Pakistan International Airlines aircraft crashed near the central city of Multan, killing 45 people. �
