BERLIN ? A lawyer for an Islamic extremist sentenced to life in prison for killing two U.S. airmen at Frankfurt airport last year and injuring two others says he has filed an appeal.
News agency dapd reported that Jens Joerg Hoffmann, an attorney for 22-year-old Arid Uka, said Friday he appealed the verdict at Germany's Federal Court of Justice.
Uka was convicted of murder, attempted murder and serious bodily harm by a Frankfurt court on Feb. 10. It ruled that he bears "particularly severe guilt" -- meaning he won't immediately be eligible for parole after 15 years as is usual for people serving life sentences in Germany.
The March 2, 2011 attack was the first in Germany attributed to an Islamic extremist.
The federal court typically takes several months to consider appeals.
