Abu Qatada has fought a long battle against his removal from UK

Extremist preacher Abu Qatada is to be released from Long Lartin top security jail later, the BBC understands.

A judge decided last week that his six-year detention could not continue after a ruling by the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).

The cleric faces terror charges in Jordan and the UK government says he is a threat to national security.
