One of the biggest leaks in US military history has exposed several cover-ups over the war in Afghanistan, including the deaths of hundreds of civilians. The whistle-blowing website, Wikileaks, handed over 90-thousand classified documents to British, American and German newspapers. They also include information on increased Taliban attacks, as well as NATO fears that Pakistan and Iran are fueling the insurgency. The White House says the leaked Pentagon files and field reports were no surprise, but that they threaten national security.

'Afghan war is lost and US govt has to face it'
US taxpayer dollars are finding their way to the pockets of the Taliban, according to a new 75-page congressional report about the military's use of Afghan security firms. The firms are used to ensure the safe passage of supply convoys. If the US doesn't pay up, almost without fail the convoy gets attacked. Brian Becker, Director of the ANSWER Coalition says Afghanistan case is hopeless.
Rethink Afghanistan War (Part 5): Women of Afghanistan
Digg this video: digg.com Eight years have passed since Laura Bush declared that "because of our recent military gains, women are no longer imprisoned in their homes" in Afghanistan. For eight years, that claim has been a lie. The truth is that American military escalation will not liberate the women of Afghanistan. Instead, the hardships of war take a disproportionate toll on women and their families. There are 1000 displaced families in a Kabul refugee camp, and they're suffering for lack of food and blankets. A few weeks ago, you generously gave $6000 to help and $9000 more is needed to take care of all 1000 families. Thats a donation of $15 per family to provide the relief necessary for their survival. Here's what your money will buy: * 5 kg (11 lb) ghee = $5.00 * 4 kg (8.8 lb) rice = $3.00 * 50 kg (110 lb) flour = $22.00 * A middle quality blanket = $10.00 * A middle quality tent carpet = $40.00 Donate: www.afghanwomensmission.org Learn more: rethinkafghanistan.com

The commander of US and NATO forces in Afghanistan says he is not bound by the July 2011 date set for a troop pull-out. General David Petraeus said he could well advise President Obama not to go ahead if he believes it's the wrong time. American public support for the war is at an all-time low, with July being the deadliest month for US and NATO troops since 2001. With frustration growing about the occupation of Afghanistan, politicians in Germany have even suggested talking to the Taliban and terrorist organizations to avoid a further escalation of violence.

Conflict: Soviet-Afghan War 1/4
Wars In Peace: Afghanistan The Soviet War in Afghanistan, also known as the SovietAfghan War, was a nine-year conflict involving the Soviet Union, supporting the Marxist government of the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan at their own request, against the Islamist Mujahideen Resistance. The mujahideen found other support from a variety of sources including the United States, United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Egypt and other Muslim nations through the context of the Cold War. The initial Soviet deployment of the 40th Army in Afghanistan began on December 24, 1979 under Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev. The final troop withdrawal started on May 15, 1988, and ended on February 15, 1989 under the last Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev. Due to the interminable nature of the war, the conflict in Afghanistan has often been referred to as the Soviets' Vietnam; the analogy compares the conflict to America's role in the Vietnam War. Pak Doublespeak on Afghan War
Zaid Hamid - Pak Establishment's leading mouthpiece - tops himself by virulently criticizing American involvement in Afghanistan and advocating Pak pressure on US for an immediate exit from Afghanistan. He does not acknowledge that Pakistan is surviving primarily because of massive American military and economic aid on account of US "War on Terror" in Afghanistan. Rethink Afghanistan War (Part 4): Civilian Casualties
Digg this video: digg.com When foreign policy is well-reasoned, we see attention given to humanitarian issues like housing, jobs, health care and education. When that policy consists of applying a military solution to a political problem, however, we see death, destruction, and suffering. Director Robert Greenwald witnessed the latter during his recent trip to Afghanistan--the devastating consequences of US airstrikes on thousands of innocent civilians. The footage you are about to see is poignant, heart-wrenching, and often a direct result of US foreign policy. We must help the refugees whose lives have been shattered by US foreign policy and military attacks. Support the Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan, an organization dedicated to helping women and children, human rights issues, and social justice. Then, become a Peacemaker. Afghan minerals: Uncovered conspiracy
The United States has discovered nearly $1 trillion in untapped mineral deposits in Afghanistan, far beyond any previously known reserves and enough to fundamentally alter the Afghan economy and perhaps the Afghan war itself, according to senior American government officials. Webster Tarpley says that this is a planted story in The New York Times by the government to keep the war going.

Nightline in Afghanistan - The Other War (Part 1 of 2)
The Other War in Afghanistan. Dramatic footage shot by journalists embedded with the 2nd Platoon of the 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team shows American troops being set up for fatal ambushes after meeting with village elders -- elders who are often suspected of tipping off Taliban fighters to their whereabouts. While the soldiers struggle to win the "hearts and minds" of these villagers, Taliban and al Qaeda fighters have women and children sit on the roofs of buildings so the soldiers can't return fire. The video was shot by Vanity Fair contributing editor Sebastian Junger and Vanity Fair photographer Tim Hetherington on assignment for Vanity Fair and ABC News. Brian Ross reports."
